Bodies of Water

Bodies of Water in London Design Festival, 2023, curated by Hannah Imhoff, was an interdisciplinary, ecofeminist exhibition that explored the parallels between women and water as fluid, controlled and resistant bodies. Set within a floating houseboat space, the exhibition reflects on how patriarchal systems attempt to regulate both nature and the female body. Through collective and site-responsive works, Bodies of Water proposed a “hydrofeminist” perspective, imagining more fluid, interconnected ways of existing beyond fixed structures of power.

I created Lay on Me as an installation of body-shaped cushions placed in a cosy corner where audiences are invited to sit, lie down and rest with the work. Each cushion is printed with photographs of body parts—hands, limbs, feet and face—the installation resembles a disassembled body scattered through the space.

By turning these body parts into something comfortable and tactile, I play with the way bodies are usually looked at, controlled or objectified. The installation invites physical interaction, allowing the body to shift and re-form. Like water, it remains fluid, suggesting that bodies, identities and gender are not fixed and shaped through experience and performance.

I often place my own body within the work, allowing it to exist simultaneously as image, object and presence
